Outgoing mail 2.2

My new teacup that I got at an antiques store last week. I really enjoy it :)

Since the postal strike lasted almost a month, I haven't had any incoming mail for a few weeks now :( But this morning I walked over to my mailbox and deposited my stack of outgoing!

I'm excited for the mail to start flowing again. I really, truly am. It'll probably take a while until they catch up, but I look forward to hearing from you all again. Oh, and if you need my new address, just shoot me an email (openupthesky42 at gmail.com) Any mail sent to my old address will get to me - I go to my parents' house at least once a week, and my mom will probably call me to let me know if I have a bunch of stuff there.

Blast From the Past

For my first Movie Monday in ages, I'd like to review a movie I watched a few weeks ago on Netflix. I know that a lot of the movies recommended on the home page are not movies that interest me at all. But years ago I saw a few scenes from this movie on tv, and it looked like a fun movie, so I gave it a try when it popped up.

Brendan Fraser plays Adam, a man who was born in a fallout shelter his eccentric father built in the 60s during the Cold War. After 35 years of knowing nothing but this shelter and his parents, Adam ventures to the surface to find the world drastically changed from the one his parents knew and taught him about. In his excursion, he meets Eve, and he enlists her help to gather more supplies for the shelter. Now, with characters named Adam and Eve, you probably don't need to guess too hard at how the movie ends...

I thought this movie was going to be super lame; and granted, it was lame in parts. However, I actually really enjoyed it. I absolutely loved Adam - he was such a gentleman, and he treated Eve in a way she had never been treated before. That was super sweet.

I don't have any huge negatives about this movie. There is a character who is a total burnout, and when Adam comes out of the shelter he takes him to be Jesus. This becomes a running joke for the rest of the movie, and I did feel that it got a little overdone toward the end. But overall the movie was really funny. Since it's free on Netflix, give it a try next time you want a silly, light-hearted movie.

The postal strike is over! Hooray!! I have some mail that is just ready and waiting to go out. I'll post those pics tomorrow (my first mail post in how long?), since tonight my laptop is being incredibly slow and I don't feel like trying to upload pictures from my phone right now.

I went back to work today after having 2 weeks off. That was pretty good, except that our problem with the back covers has now caught up with us. Well, to start off, I work at a printers. I am part of the summer agenda production team. Every summer Premier (my workplace) makes several million agendas for schools across Canada. I work as a coiler, which is hideously boring. I sit at my station all day, lifting stacks of unbound books and running coils into them. The only perk is that I get to listen to my iPod all day, and during slow times I can read my book :)

This year, Premier outsourced the inserts to a different printer than previous years, and therefore they used a different kind of ink. After half a week of producing agendas, they discovered that this ink is reacting negatively with the back covers of the books and making the edges totally curl up. This is not acceptable, so we have had to wait for new back covers and put pouches as kind of a protective shield with the old covers. We make two sizes of books (8.5x11 and 7x9) and I work on the 7x9 side. Today, we ran out of covers for the 7x9s. Sooo I mostly sat around reading a book that I picked up the other day (I made it through two-thirds of the book at work!) and then sometimes swept the floor in random places just to look kind of busy. Since we won't be getting covers until Thursday, I have the next two days off! So I have a 2 day work week. Spanktacular :P Tomorrow will be spent doing laundry and writing my essays, among other random errands.

Back with a different name!

Hi friends! I'm back from my honeymoon and settling into married life! We had a lovely time just relaxing in our cabin that we rented. Our house is being cleaned, slowly but surely. (I desperately need bookshelves to house my hundreds of books. They are currently in stacks on my floor, which is not intensely practical.) I feel like in the next couple of weeks there will finally be house pictures. Our photographer anticipates having our photos to us by mid-July, which is exciting. I cannot wait to see them! The wedding day went perfectly - the weather was perfect, and nothing truly horrible happened that day. The ceremony was in the evening, and I only crashed at around 10 when most of the guests had left and my family was cleaning up the church. I thought that was pretty amazing. I suppose you want to hear more, but I have 2 essays to complete and submit by Thursday for my final English credits via correspondence. (Yes, I am a procrastinator and I left it to the last minute. I think I have a valid excuse though!) Once those are done, I will be as free as a bird and I will have plenty of time for mail, blogging, and reading. Excited :)

Getting closer and closer.

In 5 days I will be a married woman! I am not even sure how to process that! It doesn't feel real at all, yet it feels like the most natural thing in the world. I've only had a few moments of nervousness, but really I just want life to settle down so that I can just get back to my normal routine. I miss blogging, writing letters, going for walks, having an organized space around me for that matter. I moved into our house yesterday, and Chris moved back to his parents for this last week. I wanted to be able to get settled in the house before I had to adjust to living with him as well. This place feels like home to me already, so it doesn't feel weird yet.

I feel weird that things don't feel weird.

I won't be posting again until after the wedding, most likely, so I'll see you all later as Mrs Barkman!
